Update and Version Notes

    • HOUSEKEEPING - - To ensure that linked pages properly follow the correct pathing needed to delete the entire server-side of the site and re-upload...
    • 401 Error - - created a custom 401 notice to be used as the index dot html page in all folders under the images tree to indicate the reason why no idex is displayed and include some alternative links for the user. The error pages are maintained in the utilities folder off of the main tree.
    • HOUSEKEEPING - - Pruned all of the pages and images from my personal home page (directory structure for thiese is now consolidated under phome) and moved them into a more logical tree.
    • Version 6.00 is now the operative version for chris.boots-faubert.com and phome (but I have not altered phome to reflect that as yet). Need to finish the revisions and update of the main site before that.

    • HOUSEKEEPING - - Organized the tree for chris.boots-faubert.com so that it makes more sense. Moved some of the stuff that was mingling with folders in my personal page tree and other parts of the site.
    • MAINTENANCE - - Backed up the pages and images for all versions prior to 4 and deleted same off of server and from local folder.

Standards and Rules V. 5 & 6

  • DISPLAY -- The default link display mode for the current HTML specifications includes underlined text for all links - an aspect of the protocol that looks and feels awkward on a formatted page. To remove the underlines from all links, I have inserted a format change in the Meta Head of most of the pages --

  • UTILITIES -- Concursoltalian BTN wide designated font for Utility Page Titles
  • BACK BUTTON - - Things are getting a little confusion with the 'back' button on pages because a lot of pages inside the site are being linked through the nav bar and other pages, so some pages are not going back to the correct page unless the user hits the 'Back' button on their browser. Inser the command "javascript:javascript:history.back()" as the link on all 'back' buttons in-page for the site to solve that problem. The user will be directed to the previous page in their local browser history file rather than a declared page - which should solve the problem.

    • HOUSEKEEPING - - Files from ver 2 and 3 spanning 2001 to 2007 pruned from the folder and hand-deleted from the server... Note that some of these were retained but were flagged 'Never Update' in the file so they are available for reference locally but will not upload or update to the server unless you remove that flag.

      Copied the images from this group and yesterday's to the folder for the next scheduled back-up to tape. Note to self, should make a cron job to copy all files from the back-ups to a folder on one of the SAMBA shares since it never hurts to have more than one back-up and you don't have to find the right tape if you have a live back-up do you?
