G'day!

If you are looking for information and details on how to hire me to write for your website/publication this is not the page you want - you want to click on the "Services" link that is conveniently located at the top of every page in its masthead and at the bottom in its footer. If on the other hand your interest is in reprinting something that I have written elsewhere or using one of my pieces on your website, this is indeed the page that you want!

If you have already used one of my pieces in your magazine or on your website and you are now trying to 'make that right' this is also the page you want -- but you will want to skip to the bottom of this page and read the section titled "Unfair Use" before you review the catalog, as a different set of rates apply to you!

About Reprints

This catalog contains a listing of previously published articles by CM Boots-Faubert. Unless otherwise noted in the listing, these articles are available for reprinting under secondary market rates and terms. I write in several areas and under different licensing arrangments, so it would be a bad idea to presume that just because I have a by-line on a piece means that the piece is available for reprint - which is why this Catalog exists! Ideally this should help to answer the important question - is that piece available - saving you time and effort in the process.

Use Restrictions

  • Digital Grind -- The Cape Cod Times (a member of the Dow Jones Local Media Group) is the "home" for my column, Digital Grind, which appears every other Tuesday in the Business and Technology Section. All columns from Digital Grind will appear in the Times first, and are subject to certain license restrictions as detailed below:

The Cape Cod Times owns first paper publication rights and first digital publication rights to the Digital Grind Column, with a three (3) day exclusive lead time, whereupon full ownership and licensing rights revert to the author. Secondary market rights are available for purchase both in print and digital format directly from the author.

  • Video Game Walkthroughs -- Rights for video game walkthrough and FAQ pieces vary depending upon the original client. Pieces written for Web Media Network (which may appear online at the website SuperCheats.com) were created as 'work for hire' and are wholly owned by Web Media Group. No Secondary Rights are available from me for those pieces.

Reprint and Secondary Market Rights for all other gaming articles, including game walkthroughs, FAQ's, reviews, and feature pieces may be available through the author. If you are interested in reprinting a piece, please contact the author's Business Manager, Yvonne M. Boots-Faubert via email to inquire.

  • Blog Entries -- Secondary Rights to reprint Blog Entries may be negotiated, with the fee dependant upon the reprint media, circulation, and other details best discussed with my business manager using the email link above. Please be aware that blog entries containing reviews from Game On, and game reviews written for PhreakWire are not likely to be considered for reprint sales.

All prices given are in US dollars. Please email my Business Manager Yvonne M. Boots-Faubert to arrange licensing, rates, and terms. Payment is due upon acceptance of license and can be made by cheque, money order, or by credit card via PayPal.

Make That Right

If you are reading this section it means two things: (1) for whatever reason, you used one of my pieces in your publication or on your website without first obtaining the legal license to do so; and/or (2) you are now trying to make it right.

The good news is that you can make it right -- the bad news is it is going to cost you more than it might have if you had simply followed the legal and moral route of purchasing the license in advance of your use.

To determine what you owe, check the Secondary Market Fee in the catalog above. For example, if you used Catalog Number C046 - Got a gamer? Give a good gadget, you can see that the Secondary Market License Fee is $100.00 for that piece. If you used it in a print publication, add $400 to the SM Fee, for a total of $500 for the license fee. If you used the piece on a website, add $200 to the costs, for a total of $300 for the license fee. If you used the piece on a website or in a publication that is considered to be "Adult-oriented" (cannot be sold or viewed by persons younger than 18 years of age) look up the catalog cost and add $1,000 to the amount.

Once you have determined the amount you owe, contact my Business Manager - Yvonne M. Boots-Faubert - to arrange for the license contract, and an invoice. You may pay the fee in advance of the license if you like, but when doing so you will need to clearly indicate where the piece was used.
